Computer valued at $1,000 reported missing from Pleasant Plains home
Police are investigating a burglary during which a computer apparently was taken from a home in Toms River's Pleasant Plains section. The burglary is believed to have occurred between 1 and 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon at a Hickory Street residence, said Chief of Police Michael Mastronardy. A 38-year-old resident went to the store during that time and returned home to find that an unlocked front door was used to gain entry to the house and an Apple iMac valued at $1,000 was missing, the chief said. Mastronardy said that the suspect's identity is unknown at this time. Officer Ryan Rush is investigating the incident, the chief said.

An early morning noise complaint call at a Route 9 used car dealership led to a theft arrest as police allege a man attempted to remove a part from a vehicle. Toms River Police Department Officers Pascal Gambardella and Joseph Mastronardy responded to the A Car for You dealership at 4 a.m. Wednesday and allegedly observed Leonard Mayweather, 47, of Lakewood, underneath a Hyundai with a reciprocating saw as he attempted to remove the car's catalytic converter, said Chief of Police Michael Mastronardy. After an investigation, Mayweather was was charged with theft. Recent police reports and arrests for Toms River
• A doctor's office at Hooper Avenue and South Shore Drive was burglarized sometime over the weekend, said Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy. A suspect entered the office and removed about $400 from three desks along with a metal gray cash drawer and a Dell laptop computer from the office at 1749 Hooper Avenue. Toms River Police Officer Mark Nater is investigating. • At 9 a.m. on Monday Officer Sean Smith investigated an attempted theft of steel wind chimes from a home on Greenwich Court. A male dressed in a gray sweat pants and shirt was seen taking the chimes from the victim’s door. A Toms River man was charged with drunken driving after striking a telephone pole in Forked River. Edward Meinwieser, 30, of Toms River was arrested when police responded to Lacey Road near Newark Avenue on a report of a motor vehicle accident on Sept. 9 at 3:02 a.m. Police observed a Chevy Impala with significant damage to the passenger side. It was determined that Meinwieser’s car left the travel portion of the road and struck a telephone pole. Meinwieser was charged with DWI, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane. His car was impounded.

Recent incidents as released by Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy: • Toms River Police responded to an alarm at a residence in the 1300 block of Church Road near Old Freehold Road 10 a.m. Thursday. An unknown subject apparently attempted to pry open a rear window and forced a screen to fall into the bedroom of the home, that activated the alarm. Connecticut police said a woman impaired by prescription drugs almost swerved in front of a truck, then got off the highway and went to sleep in a parking lot in Darien, with her car still running when police confronted her.
A 53-year-old Toms River woman whom Darien police nearly collided with an oncoming truck was later charged with impaired driving. Police believe the woman was impaired by overusing prescription medication was driving erraticly on Interstate 95 on Sunday before pulling into a parking lot in town. Police said they could detect no odor of alcohol on the woman, although her speech was slurred and her eyes were read. Methadone hydrochloride and Oxycodone pills were found in the trunk of her car. Various incidents this week
Unrelated incidents involving alarm calls, suspicious persons and burglaries were reported this week in Toms River at various homes in town. In one incident Monday, a Brookside Drive home was burglarized by a suspect who broke in through a front window, police said. Officer Scott Duncan investigated a burglary in the 700 block of Brookside Drive that reportedly happened while the home was vacant between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday. The suspect removed a 100 pound black safe from the home that contained jewelry and cash, said Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy. Recent police and fire activity for Toms River
A report of a leak of oil into a lagoon in Shelter Cove required the response of firefighters, the Toms River Office of Emergency Management and Ocean County Health Department yesterday morning. The spill occurred on Bermuda Drive, with John Winton, OEM coordinator, reported some diesel fuel in the lagoon from an unknown source. Toms River Police respond to incidents, continue criminal investigation
A 19 year-old was briefly missing near the Normandy Beach beachfront, activating an emergency water search that was called off ten minutes later, police said. A report of a missing person on the beach around 3 p.m. Monday lead to a water search response from police and fire personnel. Ocean Beach Fire Company responded. The 19 year-old was found elsewhere on the beach, signaling no emergency response was needed, said Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy.
