UPDATE: Police Identify Whiting Woman Killed in Tuesday Route 70 Crash

Crash reportedly occurred at about 5 p.m. in the area of Route 539

Police late Tuesday night identified the township woman who was killed in a head-on collision on Route 70 earlier that afternoon.  The collision, which occurred at 4:50 p.m. in the eastbound lane of the state highway just east of the intersection with Route 539, killed 68-year-old Theresa R. McKeon of Whiting, said Manchester Police Department Lt. Robert Dolan in a statement.  McKeon, who was driving a 2011 KIA, had her dog in the vehicle with her and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by representatives from the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office, Dolan said.  The driver of the other vehicle, a 2004 Jaguar driven by June A. to cynic. i can tell u the woman took her condition very seriously. i work with her and watch her religiously check her sugar and take her meds. she had been under a lot of stress which can also affect your levels so let's not jump to conclusions. her coworkers are in shock and very concerned for her as well as the other family. i'm sure at one time or another every diabetic has had a low sugar …   more ›

Near Head-On Route 70 Crash Shutters Afternoon Traffic

State highway closed for over an hour Wednesday afternoon

Route 70 was closed for over an hour Wednesday afternoon following a near head-on crash between a sedan and tractor trailer. The "severe collision" occurred at about 2:48 p.m. on the state highway just west of Green Acres Road near the Toms River border, said Manchester police Capt. Lisa Parker in a statement. The crash is nearly two miles east from the site of a deadly Route 70 crash early Wednesday morning. According to witnesses, a Hyundai Sonata driven westbound by 86-year-old Manchester resident Rutzy Scott "began drifting toward the center of the roadway," Parker said. Township Man Killed, Two Injured in Early Morning Route 70 Crash

Police say man crossed into opposing lane of traffic

A township man was killed and two others were injured in an early morning head-on collision on Route 70 Wednesday.  Manchester resident Edward Strungis, 60, was killed when the Lexus IS300 he was driving westbound on Route 70 crossed into the opposing lane of traffic near Leisure Village West at about 1:08 a.m. Wednesday and struck another vehicle, said Manchester police Capt. Lisa Parker in a statement. Strungis was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Friday Evening Collision Kills 2 Along Route 70

Four others sent to the hospital following the crash near Wilbur Avenue

A three-car crash along Route 70 Friday evening claimed two lives and sent four to the hospital, police said.  The crash occurred near Wilbur Avenue on the state highway at about 6:30 p.m. when a 2010 Nissan Sentra driven by Manchester resident Ian W. Warrender, 73, collided with a 2010 Toyota Yaris operated by Pamela J. Trotter, 41, of Wrightstown, said Manchester Police Department Capt. Lisa Parker.  Both vehicles were then struck by a 1993 Chevrolet Wagon driven by 27-year-old Rita Solheim of Jackson, Parker said.  Trotter was pronounced dead at the scene. Warrender was transported by helicopter to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune where he later died, Parker said. Both were travelling alone. Solheim was travelling with her husband…
