Toms River Children Impacted by Hurricane Sandy Enjoy Breakfast with Santa

Neighbors step up to help brighten holidays for neighbors who lost so much

The all-purpose room in Toms River Intermediate School North was the scene Saturday, December 15 of what appeared to be a large community Breakfast with Santa Claus for the students and families of Silver Bay and East Dover Elementary Schools.  There was laughter and smiles everywhere.  Toys were stacked high filling the entire stage area and another long set of tables on the opposite side of the room decorated by a sea of green and white balloons. Santa Claus and his elves made the rounds handing out candy canes. However, this was no ordinary event -- all of the families attending lost their homes and many of their possessions almost seven weeks ago during Hurricane Sandy. Intermediate North Prepares for Parkway Connector Road's Impact

School will see both ends of Intermediate North Way modified through major construction project

As the school year rolls on, Toms River Intermediate School North will have their surrounding area transformed, through the building of a mile-long access road that would directly connect Route 571 with exit 83 of the Garden State Parkway. The plan involves extending Intermediate North Way between Route 9 and Route 571, and expanding the existing northbound exit and entrance ramps at the Parkway. New signals will be installed at Intermediate North Way and Route 571, where the connector road meets Route 9, and the Parkway. Route 571 will also be widened between Route 9 and the connector road as part of plans to improve Interchange 83, according to Freeholder John P. Kelly. A southbound GSP exit (Exit 83) is long, long overdue. Would create a dramatic improvement at Exit 82 and Rt. 37 eastbound as well as Rt. 166 northbound.   more ›
