A day-long event featuring food, drink and popular New Jersey rock bands on Sunday will raise funds for Red Cross efforts to meet the needs of those victimized by Hurricane Sandy. The "Unite 2 Revive" will be held at Jersey’s Sports Bar, located at 116 Third Ave. in Neptune, from noon to 7 p.m. The fundraising event is being presented by Stars that Shine Entertainment, LLC, TOURPAX, and Synergy Event Planners. The restaurant will be serving food and drink specials during the event and sponsors include Patch sites throughout New Jersey. Others have had no power at all for 10 days
Gov. Christie told a gathering on Long Beach Island on Wednesday that the coming Nor'easter and anticipated snowfall would likely cause "a setback" in the work underway for full power restoration. Boy, he wasn't kidding. JCP&L, on its website, is acknowledging that the nor'easter has created new outages, often for customers who were hit with outages in the height of Sandy's destructive path, had power restored and are now in the cold darkness yet again. "Late Wednesday, heavy, wet snow and high winds from the nor'easter resulted in approximately 120,000 additional power outages in the Jersey Central Power & Light service territory," says the JCP&L website. Conference call with state, federal officials on Thursday
Small business owners who were impacted by Sandy need to be on a conference call at 2 p.m. Thursday with state and federal officials, says the New Jersey Conference of Mayors. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), New Jersey Economic Development Authority and New Jersey Business Action Center senior officials will be on the conference call on the federal and state government's efforts to help small businesses and homeowners recover from Hurricane Sandy. Still 74,012 in the dark in Ocean and Monmouth counties
There are currently 28,176 JCP&L customers without power in Ocean County and 45,836 without power in Monmouth County, according to an update on the JCP&L website. Those numbers change constantly as crews continue to work on outages throughout the region. However, the nor'easter starting to move into the area may cause new outages as well as coastal flooding, according to the National Weather Service. JCP&L, in a prepared statement, says: "Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) has restored power to more than 900,000 of the 1.2 million JCP&L customers affected by Hurricane Sandy, marking five consecutive days where crews have restored at least 100,000 customers per day. No spring break in 2013
Like many other area schools, the Ocean County Vocational Technical School district will be closed until Nov. 12. The district includes the Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Sciences (MATES), in Manahawkin, the Performing Arts Academy (PAA), in Lakehurst, and many other instructional programs offered at multiple sites throughout the county. A recorded phone call made to parents of students at the academies said the closure is due to the many sending districts that are closed this coming week due to damage from Sandy. The message also said that the time off will be made up during the spring break in April, so students will not have off at that time.

Extensive damage could delay service restorations across rail and bus linking NJ, NY and Philadelphia
The nation's largest statewide public transportation system says it faces a massive repair and restoration effort in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. NJTransit, consisting of 12 commuter train lines, 3 light rail lines and 261 bus routes, suffered "unprecedented devastation" from the storm, according to James Simpson, New Jersey's transportation commissioner and chairman of the NJTransit board. The system normally provides 895,000 weekday trips, servicing 164 rail stations, 61 light rail stations and more than 19,000 bus stops. Little of that activity was evident on Tuesday, however. The Virginia Task Force One team is on its way to Fort Dix as it prepares to respond to destruction after Hurricane Sandy.
Before Fairfax County's world-renowned Urban Search and Rescue Team assists in major disasters — such as Hurricane Sandy — there is a lot of preparing and waiting involved. Much of that occurs in a nondescript industrial-style building in Chantilly. On Monday, the 80-member team — many of whom had been up through much of the night — prepared to deploy to Fort Dix, N.J., to assist in recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. They departed on buses shortly before noon, and only found out minutes before leaving where they would be going to wait for recovery efforts.
