Updated: Buckwald Drive Reopens after October Closure

Closures in place for electrical work

Editor's Note: The story is updated with both lanes of Buckwald now open for traffic this morning. A main thorofare for Ocean County College and shortcut between Church and Hooper avenues reopened after about two weeks of construction. Buckwald Drive, closed for electrical repairs, had for most of October seen both lanes closed for the project. College Drive was the only entrance to Ocean County College while Buckwald was shuttered. Through Oct. 5, both lanes of the north-south road were closed, creating reported backups and heavy volume along Hooper Avenue between College Drive and Yorktowne Boulevard through Silverton. On Oct. 12, the road was expected to be open, according to the county roads department. Buckwald and Hooper are both …

Toms River Traffic Report: Buckwald Reopened After Accident, Lane Closures Elsewhere

Tree cutting crews, paving and construction also close lanes throughout Toms River

Buckwald Drive has since reopened after Toms River Police responded to a minor two-car accident near Church Road at around 2:30 p.m., police said. Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said one of the vehicle's occupants complained of knee pain but the injuries were minor. Buckwald Drive was closed for approximately an hour, sending Ocean County College traffic to use the College Drive entrance off Hooper instead of the Church Road access. At 3:30 p.m., the accident was cleared and the road had been reopened, Mastronardy said. Lane Closure for Tree Cutting Crews on Oak Avenue:  Oak Avenue near the Ocean County Mall entrance had utility crews cutting limbs from trees hanging over the roadway. I know what you mean about getting the town to cut down a tree. For years we had one of the township trees blockikng our sewer line, and another interfering with our phone, electric and cable wires. Finally, they cut down the one by the sewer, but refuse to cut the other one.   more ›

College Drive Traffic Woes Will Soon End as Buckwald Drive Reopens

Access to both entrances of the college come Monday after a week of closures to Buckwald side of campus.

Construction on Buckwald Drive will be completed this weekend, opening up the back entrance to Ocean County College. This comes as a relief to local residents who have felt the burden of extra traffic along Hooper Avenue this past week. According to Tara Kelly, Vice President of College Advancement, construction began October 26 to put in a new water main to supply the Gateway building. The Gateway Building will house many of the bachelor-degree classes for students earning a degree from Kean College. The water main construction is under the direction of United Water, who has contracted J.F. Kiely to put in the new piping. The water main is going to be connected to the local source at Church Road, and will run under the H. George Buckwald …

Buckwald Drive Reopens, Allowing Traffic Between Hooper, Church Road

Road to Ocean County College closed most of August

Today, a sigh of relief from those hoping to go from Church Road to Hooper Avenue (or vice versa). Ocean County College reported yesterday the closed Buckwald Drive is scheduled to reopen today after a two-week closure for construction. The county road was closed beginning Aug. 2. Construction closed the road to tend to water main work, as crews advance construction projects at Ocean County College. Buckwald Drive connects Church Road to College Drive, the main entrance to Ocean County College. The road closure essentially created a no-through traffic situation for the college campus, whereas normally traffic could go from Hooper to Church Road, as a short cut of sorts. The College Drive entrance was open but all traffic had to exit from …
