New Jersey Education Assocation has created a fund to help its members restore classrooms and schools so students can get back to school and back to normal as soon as possible. The NJEA Hurricane Sandy Back to School Fund will be used to support member volunteer efforts in New Jersey’s hardest-hit communities and schools. NJEA president Barbara Keshishian issued the following statement: “We are devastated by the reports we are hearing and the images we are seeing in many of our school districts. While most schools are slowly returning to normal operation, there are dozens and perhaps hundreds of public school buildings across the state that suffered tremendous damage. Those in need can pick up supplies Nov. 10
Cleaning supplies distribution Nov. 10: Christ Episcopal Church, Washington Street, has been collecting cleaning supplies throughout the week and has set up a distribution time for residents in need of cleaning supplies. Those in need can come to the church, 415 Washington Street, between 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Nov. 10. Additional dates may be announced. Items sought after include: Brooms, Pails/Buckets, Heavy duty garbage bags, Bleach, Clorox Wipes, Other liquid cleaners (Mr. Clean, Ajax, etc), Paper Towels, Sponges, Rubber Gloves, Masks, Masking tape.

Donations, sorters needed
Folks looking to lend a hand or drop off much-needed items have a list of places to go to help out in Ocean County. Hurricane Sandy has devastated much of the area and non-perishable food, toiletries, baby items, clothing and more are being donated. Where can you drop off items you'd like to donate? The Ocean County Sheriff's Office released the following list. Toms River Office of Emergency Management Paul Daley advised donors to not drop off items at evacuation shelters directly. Instead use the list of donation centers so volunteers there can process items. In many cases, volunteers are welcome at the donation centers. A main task is to help sort. Call to confirm. Noon- 3 p.m., Thespian Society students going door-to-door for donations
It's not a trick. Toms River High School North's thespian society students decided to use the rescheduled trick or treating day, Monday, to solicit donations door-to-door for local Hurricane Sandy relief. The trick-or-treaters will be ringing doorbells and hoping for bottles of shampoo instead of bars of chocolate.
