Below is an obituary submitted by the family of Beverly Ida Ann Krzastek, a former Toms River resident who died in Florida in December. In her memory, they request that donations may be made to rebuild the East Dover Volunteer Fire Company headquarters, which was devastated by Hurricane Sandy. Donations can be made at the 629 Fischer Blvd. building or at www.edfc4.com. Beverly Krzastek, 63, of Fort Myers, Fla., died suddenly on December 26 at her family’s home. Born in Hackensack, she lived most of her life in the Shelter Cove section of Toms River before moving to Cape Coral, Fla., in 1997. She was graduated from Toms River High School in 1967. Refrigerator motor damaged by flooding deemed to be cause, police said.
A home at 115 Trinidad Ave. in the Pelican Island section of the Township that has been vacant since Hurricane Sandy caught fire at approximately 10:30 this morning from a refrigerator motor that was damaged by flooding, Toms River Police said. Detective Thomas Dimichele, who was investigating the fire with Cpl. Louis Sulsenti and the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention, determined that the fire today was caused by a refrigerator motor. The home was energized with electricity earlier in the day and led to the faulty motor causing the fire, police said. Fire units from Seaside Heights, Toms River Fire Companies 1 & 2, and East Dover responded and quickly extinguished the blaze to the one-and-a-half-story cape cod, police said. Debris …

Officials uncertain how long recovery at Fischer Boulevard headquarters will take
No one at the East Dover Fire Company had seen flood water rise that fast, or with such force. "The water was so swift, it picked up that refrigerator and flipped it over," said Sharon Goresh, a company trustee, as she motioned to the 400-pound stainless steel box in the firehouse's kitchen. Like most everything else in the company's headquarters, it was totaled when Hurricane Sandy battered the Jersey Shore last month. "None of the equipment is usable again," said Asst. Chief Rick Tutela. "The building, in our eyes, is totalled. It wrecked every office in the building." The entirety of the Fischer Boulevard fire company headquarters, including its $60,000 commercial-grade kitchen, needs to be gutted and rebuilt. Restoring the building …

I am writing this letter to ask the residents of Toms River Township, District 1 to come out on Saturday February 18 and vote to re-elect Doug Foley for another term as Fire Commissioner for District 1. Doug’s credentials speak volumes for him. He has served the residents of Toms River Township for the past 33+ years as a firefighter, Chief and Fire Commissioner. Before he retired, Doug worked in the NJ Division of Fire Safety where, in his role as a Code Enforcement Fire Official, he was widely a respected by those he worked for and those he worked with in the State. Even before he worked for the State of New Jersey, Doug was in the suppression end of the Fire Service as a career firefighter at Lakehurst Naval Engineering Center. During…
