School Board Approves Central Administrator Contracts

A single board member voted against all three employment agreements, citing lack of personnel committee meeting beforehand

The contracts of three Toms River school administrators were approved this week by the Board of Education, though one member opposed the employment agreements because a newly-formed personnel committee was not given a chance to meet and discuss the terms.  Business Administrator William Doering and Assistant Superintendents Debra McKenna and James Hauenstein were all approved for one year contracts when the the board met Tuesday. Loreen Torrone, a board member who championed the committee which was formed in March, was the lone "no" vote. "No, until there's a personnel committee (meeting)," she said when casting her vote for McKenna's contract, the first of the three to be considered. Torrone went on to vote against the other two …

Frank Roselli will retire at the end of the school year after suffering a heart attack

With the district's superintendent scheduled to retire at the end of June, Toms River Board of Education members have begun to consider how to go about finding the school system's next leader.  Members heard from a New Jersey School Boards Association representative Monday about how they could move forward through the organization's fee-based search to replace outgoing superintendent Frank Roselli, 61, who submit his letter of retirement last month after suffering a heart attack. "Everything that we do begins and ends with the board," said Field Service Representative Kathy Winecoff.  The NJSBA plan, which has several tiers of search involvement ranging in price from $3,500 to $15,00, is not the only option for the board. They can seek out…

Parents need to be informed. TR Schools is not what it once was. Low test scores, poor academic accomplishments, antiquated curriculum all make for an unsuccessful school system. Choice schools are a great option for your children. Stay informed. Ask questions and demand answers from school officials regarding what type of education your child is getting. Superintendent: Toms River Regional Schools 'Significantly Impacted'

Roselli explains return to normalcy as schools scheduled to reopen Nov. 12.

Message from Toms River Superintendent of Schools Frank Roselli: Dear Members of our Regional School Community, As most of you know by now, the Toms River Regional Schools, along with many other schools throughout the state, have been significantly impacted by the recent hurricane, so much so that the circumstances have necessitated the closing of our schools for this week. We will, however, return to school, Monday, November 12, 2012. At this time, many of our schools are still experiencing a loss of power, as well as the loss of heat, telephone and computers. With each new day, we see improvements in this area, but we have no guarantees as to when our entire district will be up and running. Obviously, not only are the school buildings …
