Column as submitted by Toms River Councilman Jeff Carr: On October 23rd the Council met for the last time before Hurricane Sandy. Little did anyone know what we would be faced with in the weeks to follow. The meeting started, as it usually does, with honoring resolutions and presentations. Vaughn Fortuna was recognized for his achievement of obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout. There were several presentations focusing on Veterans Day including readings by the winning students in the Veterans Day essay contest. Several Police officers received promotions and were recognized along with their families. Much of the remainder of the meeting involved conducting the general business of the Township. About 1,000 votes separate challenger
A contested race for Ward 4 of Toms River Township saw current Councilman Al Manforti win against Dem. Challenger Eli Eytan. The one-year unexpired term had about 1,000 votes separate the two men for a ward seat that represents neighborhoods such as downtown Toms River. Rep. Al Manforti:4,068, 57.26 percent Dem. Eli Eytan: 3,032, 42.68 percent The uncontested race for Ward 3's unexpired term saw current councilman Rep. Jeffrey Carr garner 6,866 votes.

Column as submitted by Councilman Jeff Carr: Development within Toms River Township is an ongoing and ever changing process. Applicants, whether they are residents or commercial property owners, typically appear before either the Planning Board or Zoning Board to obtain approval. Approvals range from simple applications for decks, pools and additions up to major shopping centers and commercial developments. The Planning Board and Zoning Board are guided by the Municipal Land Use Law, the Township Master Plan and the Township Land Use Ordinances. Hey Johnjcpa - sorry I did not respond..out of town recently. Anyway, not only did my friend go to the Township building the week after the storm...but so did my spouse. So, the power was up, running and the councilperson was at her full time job as we were told. First hand-knowldege...hard to beat!   more ›
