Nuclear power plant staff are in close contact with law enforcement officials
Security measures have been enhanced at Oyster Creek Generating Station following the explosions at the Boston Marathon that claimed the lives of three and wounded more than 170 people. “We are at a heightened state of security awareness,” spokesperson Suzanne D’Ambrosio said, adding that the measures taken are not unusual for public facilities. “Our security team stands at the ready as they do 24/7/365 to protect the plant, the public and our employees.” D’Ambrosio could not say what the increased security includes or how long it will last. “We stay in close contact with law enforcement officials and we’re closely tied to what’s going on,” she said. Janet Tauro, an anti-nuclear advocate for Grandmothers, Mothers and More for Energy Safety…

Owner dropped Errol off Thursday, complaining that he wants to run and play too much
Errol was just turned back into the Associated Humane Societies at Popcorn Park Thursday, after being adopted out for six months. “This is a sad day for our good friend Errol,” Sandy Hickman of Popcorn Park said. His owner said that he “can’t tolerate Errol any longer,” Hickman said. The owner complained that, “all he wants to do is run and play, and he pulls the leash out of my hand while being walked” and that, “a .22 and a shovel are what would fix Errol,” Hickman said. “Obviously this was far from the right home that we wanted for Errol,” she said. Errol, a 7-year-old black lab mix, originally came to Popcorn Park in the fall of 2010. He waited almost two years to be adopted. He arrived from down south with a group of seven other dogs…

Although Prissy has medical needs, she is now thriving and looking for a new home
Prissy, an eight-year-old pug, arrived at the Associated Humane Societies in January “completely comatose,” said Sandy Hickman of Popcorn Park, a Forked River based rescue facility. “We received a call in January from a distressed person that needed to have her deceased pet removed from her Keansburg home,” she said. “We dispatched our Animal Control Officer to the home and when we went to retrieve the pet, he realized something just wasn’t right.” The home was in disarray, the owner was disheveled and Prissy was breathing. The owner had explained that the dog must have eaten something and died several hours earlier. Upon noticing Prissy was still alive, the Animal Control Officer immediately brought her to the veterinarian at Popcorn Park…

Mandy may be a 10 year old Yorkie but she is "young at heart," said Sandy Hickman of Popcorn Park. Mandy arrived at Popcorn Park's animal shelter after her owner moved out of state and could not take her along. Mandy first was given to a friend of her owners who also could not keep Mandy. "Mandy is a tiny little Yorkie with a big heart. She just loves life, and loves everyone in it. She is such a sweet, easy going girl with such a pleasant personality, that it's impossible not to love her," Hickman said. Hickman described Mandy as quiet, well behaved, very polite and super friendly. Unfortunately, a health issue had been neglected by her original owner. Those interested in adopting her will have to speak with Popcorn Park's veterinarian …

Della was originally from a shelter in Georgia, where she arrived as a stray
Della, a 7-year-old yellow lab/vizsla mix, originally arrived at the Popcorn Park shelter with a group from Georgia. When Della, who arrived at a shelter in Georgia as a stray, came to Forked River she was thin and ill with heartworm. Della got adopted and was in a home for several months before she was returned for “jumping on people.” The lab mix not only needed some cleaning up and care upon her arrival, but she returned 40 pounds heavier. Della is described as loving, playful, energetic and well behaved. She is house trained and walks well on a leash. She would be good with kids, but no cats. Those interested in adopting Della, who has another dog, could set up a play date to see how they interact with each other. To adopt Della, stop …
