Impact of Toms River Teen's Death Reaches Lacey Schools

A Toms River North sophomore with roots in Forked River was remembered by students there, as friends and former teachers in Lacey Township absorbed the news of his death Monday. Jesse Carbonaro, 16, who grew up in Forked River before moving to Toms River in 2009, died crossing Route 70 Monday evening. At 8:15 p.m., Carbonaro was struck by a sports utility vehicle driven by Laconda Coleman, 37, of Lakehurst, police said, as Coleman was traveling westbound on the highway near Whitesville Road. The incident was near his home in Crescent Apartments. Police are still investigating the incident. Carbonaro, a sophomore at Toms River North, was pronounced dead at the scene, Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said. Grief counseling is …

Driver causes accident while trying to flag down police

Car rear-ended on Washington Ave. and Courthouse Lane

A driver, stopping abruptly to talk to a police officer who was waiting to cross the street, was rear-ended by the vehicle behind hers. The minor motor vehicle accident occurred just after 2 p.m. today. A black sedan traveling west on Washington Street braked as its driver saw a police officer on the sidewalk in front of the Ocean County Library and began rolling down her car window, smiling and trying to talk to the officer. At that moment the car behind her, a tan SUV, rear-ended the vehicle, at the intersection of Washington and Courthouse Lane. The officer, having just witnessed the accident, then approached the vehicles and asked them to turn onto Courthouse Lane for questioning and to allow vehicular traffic to continue to flow on …
