The state Department of Transportation has a traffic camera pointed west over Route 37 at the intersections of Route 35 and at Fischer Boulevard, here. Police believe multiple aliases used by woman, arrested at Kohl's in Toms River
TOMS RIVER, N.J. - A woman working as a live-in home health aide was arrested after police responded to a shoplifting call and discovered she had random jewelry, including New York Police Department rings, wrapped up in her purse. Toms River Police are hoping to track down the owners of 57 pieces of jewelry believed stolen by the woman, 33 year-old Joyce Ababio of Ghana, Africa. Though Ababio was using a Bronx address, she was using multiple aliases and working as a home health aide in Whiting, said Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy. Mastronardy said the health agency that employs the woman is cooperating with police, and investigators are hoping to track down additional owners of the stolen jewelry. “We responded to a …

Photo gallery explores the traffic, jughandles and lights along the state road
One of the busiest roads in Toms River is also a state road: Route 37. The east-west corridor is the major thorofare from the Parkway to Seaside and points throughout town. Here's a view of the highway, whether you are grateful for it or find the commercial strip unsightly, or whether it's just simply the way you get to where you need to go — it's still classic Toms River. The Route 37 corridor is our featured section of town in this Picture This photo gallery. To share your own photos, click the Pics & Clips tab above.

9 p.m. Thursday incident led to driving while intoxicated charges
A woman driving through oncoming traffic nearly collided head-on with a police car Thursday night. The police car was then rear-ended by a third vehicle as police attempted to stop the allegedly intoxicated female who was driving east in the Route 37 westbound lanes for about a mile. Officer William Hutton spotted the car driving the wrong way around Brookside Drive on Route 37 and abruptly stopped in the westbound lanes and activated his emergency lights and sirens, said Capt. Steven Henry. The driver veered out of the way, managing to avoid a head-on collision with Hutton's police car, Henry said. But a car driving behind Hutton was unable to stop and rear-ended the officer's vehicle. "Officer Hutton immediately activated his emergency …
