Township man remains in jail on $125,000 bail following Monday night incident
A township man is being held on $125,000 bail after police said that he ordered a 19-year-old and his minor friend to drive him to a drug purchase. The suspect, 27-year-old Andrew Meli of Main Street, allegedly was armed with a semi-automatic handgun when confronted a 19-year-old Manchester man parked at the Toms River Apartments who was waiting for his 16-year-old female friend. When the girl arrived, Meli then allegedly demanded that the pair drive him to a drug purchase, said Toms River Chief of Police Michael Mastronardy. Meli was driven to a South Toms River residence where he allegedly bought cocaine and took $40 from the victims before they were able to drive away, Mastronardy said. Man looked through Frontage Road bedroom window and drove off, police said
Toms River police ask that anyone with information about a suspicious persons incident — during which a Frontage Road woman said a man peered into her home — contact the department. The 47-year-old victim reported that she heard her dog barking Wednesday and when she looked out of her bedroom window she saw a man looking in, according to Chief of Police Michael Mastronardy. An Indian Hill Road man was charged with shoplifting after allegedly trying to leave an Ocean County Mall store wearing merchandise he did not buy on Wednesday. A police investigation found that William Wutzer, 47, entered a Boscov's dressing room with a jacket, hat, gloves and two shirts and later tried to exit the store with the merchandise, according to Toms River Police Department Chief Michael Mastronardy. "Loss prevention officers then observed him leaving wearing the jacket and went to question him when he took off running. Toms River police are investigating a Tuesday hit and run crash at the intersection of Cox Cro Road and Route 9. Zbigniew Skora, 62, was driving a 2002 Honda when he allegedly struck a traffic signal and tractor trailer stopped on eastbound Cox Cro Road at the Route 9 traffic light at 4:30 p.m., said Chief of Police Michael Mastronardy. "Mr. Skora then fled westbound on Cox Cro Road," Mastronardy said. "A witness gave a Pennsylvania plate that police dispatchers were able to trace through department records to a home on Camino Verde." Skora faces "numerous" motor vehicle offenses following the incident and Officer Charles Grainger is investigating, the chief said. Two unrelated incidents reported during the early morning hours
Officers from the Toms River Police Department continue to investigate two early morning Wednesday crashes after which the drivers abandoned their vehicles. The first occurred at 2 a.m. on Parkway Drive when a 2003 Dodge truck struck a tree and the driver left the scene, said Chief of Police Michael Mastronardy. Officer Anthony Scali is investigating the crash and attempting to identify the driver. Police then responded to a crash at 2:30 a.m. on New Hampshire Avenue where a northbound vehicle crossed the southbound lanes and struck a utility pole near Hickory Street, the chief said. Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy released information about the following incidents: • Officer Brian Jarka is investigating the theft of four bronze propellers used for lawn decorations stolen sometime Sunday night from a residence on Silverton Road. The propellers were valued at $100. One of the propellers is 16 inches across and three others measure 6 inches. • Officer Pascale Gambardella is investigating a criminal mischief incident to a fence that occurred 11:30 p.m. Sunday Sept. 16 on Bricksburg Court. A resident heard a loud noise and discovered unknown suspects broke his vinyl fence causing $500 worth of damage. Another neighbor reported a gray or silver SUV drove away immediately after the incident toward Huddy Road. …

Officer Jennifer Grob is investigating the theft of a Nokia Lumia cell phone and a MacBook laptop computer that was on a counter in the Radio Shack store at the Tri-City Plaza, Routes 9 and 70. Apparently two black males were in the store and removed the items that belonged to the clerk, when the clerk was momentarily distracted. A 2002 Ford truck collided with a utility pole just after 11:30 on Saturday night at Kettle Creek Road and Blue Sea Lane in Toms River. Arthur Carballo, 35, of Jackson was eastbound on Kettle Creek Road when the vehicle left the road and struck a utility pole at Blue Sea Lane, Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said in a prepared news release. After being extricated from the vehicle by the Silverton Fire Company Carballo was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, by Toms River Police EMS. Cast iron grates valued at over $700.
Police Chief Michael Mastronardy released the following reports: Officer Patrick Jacques is investigating the theft of two cast iron man-hole covers and two cast iron grates, valued at over $700, from a wooded area on Route 37 west near Banannier Drive. The theft occurred over the last few days. The items are scheduled to be replaced by their owner, the New Jersey state Department of Transportation. Boy breathing on his own, received medical assistance from lifeguards
Toms River Police responded just after 4:30 p.m. Saturday to the YMCA on Whitty Road for a two-year-old Pine Beach boy who was reportedly in distress after being pulled from one of the center's two pools, according to Police Chief Michael Mastronardy. When Lieutenant James Harris and Officer T.J. Polhemus arrived the child was breathing on his own. YMCA lifeguards provided medical assistance once the boy was pulled from the water, according to Mastronardy. The boy, who was at the facility with family members, was transported to Community Medical Center by Toms River Police EMS. His condition was not available.
