A kitchen fire and vehicle fire were reported in Toms River this week
No injuries were reported as authorities responded to a kitchen fire and vehicle fire this week, according to police. A portion of a Holiday City home's kitchen was damaged in a Tuesday afternoon fire. A Mount Matterhorn Lane resident was cooking French fries on her stove when it became too hot and ignited a kitchen fire, according to Chief of Police Michael Mastronardy. The woman, 69-year-old Suvetta Bivins, attempted to extinguish the fire with water, but that caused flames to grow. Bivins then used a fire extinguisher to put out the blaze, which caused damage to the stove, microwave, walls and kitchen, Mastronardy said. A 29-year-old male and 21-year-old female may have died from drug use, police said
Police are investigating two recent deaths in Toms River as possible drug overdoses, according to Chief of Police Michael Mastronardy. The deaths of a 29-year-old man found Friday, April 12, and a 21-year-old female discovered Monday, April 15, remain under investigation and police ask that anyone with information come forward, Mastronardy said. Neither individual was identified by police, though Mastronardy said the 29-year-old man was found not breathing by family members in his Main Street home and the 21-year-old woman was found in a local hotel room. Victim transported to area hospital by helicopter after Tuesday night incident, police said
The Silverton man flown to an area trauma center after being struck by a car on Hooper Avenue Tuesday night is in stable condition, according to hospital staff. The incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. just south of South Shore Drive, according to Toms River Chief of Police Michael Mastronardy. Noah Huyler, 30, of Mello Lane was struck by a Pontiac traveling southbound on Hooper operated by Jessica Schiele, 22, of Twin Oaks Drive, the chief said. Crash near the Route 37 Walmart caused one death, police said
Police are investigating a crash on Route 37 at the Walmart entrance Tuesday night that claimed the life of a Toms River man. The 11 p.m. incident on the state highway, during which a car making a turn was struck by another vehicle, marks the third fatal crash in Toms River this year, said Chief of Police Michael Mastronardy. "According to a witness, a Saturn was crossing Route 37 making a left turn onto Route 37 westbound when it was struck by a pickup truck that was traveling east on 37," Mastronardy said. Incident at Silverton Walgreens happened early Tuesday morning, police said
Police are searching for a man wearing a "Restore the Shore" sweatshirt who allegedly stole cigarettes from a Walgreens and caused $1,000 worth of damage on his way out early Tuesday morning. After grabbing a carton of Newport cigarettes valued at $78 from a Silverton Walgreens employee, an unidentified man raced to leave the store around 1 a.m. Tuesday. Other injuries also reported in three-vehicle crash
A Monday afternoon Route 37 crash has claimed another life, Toms River police said Tuesday. Carl Johnson, 48, of Lake Como has died as a result of the 1:30 p.m. three-vehicle crash Monday just west of Saint Catherine Boulevard, Chief of Police Michael Mastronardy said Tuesday. Johnson was transported to Community Medical Center after the crash, which also took the life of Gary Miller, 58, of Toms River. The incident marks the second fatal crash in the township this year, the chief said.
