We reached out to Middletown Mayor Gerry Scharfenberger to ask about the $2.3 million allocation in his township, which experienced severe flooding and damage in the Bayshore communities of North Middletown, Port Monmouth, Belford and Leonardo, and wind damage and more in other areas. He said the full cost of the storm clean-up in the 60 square-mile town is $14 million. "With Middletown being so large, it isn't surprising that the initial number was the largest. We still have a long way to go," he said in an email.
