Letter: Fire District 1 Deserves Support

Resident glad for information mailed from district offices

Letter to the editor as submitted by resident Joe Lypowy:

Last week I received a very informative and well done pamphlet from the Toms River District 1 Fire Commissioners announcing the fire district elections on February 18.  I was impressed with the four page pamphlet explaining the aspects of our taxes and the fire budget. The last time the district had a special election there was a lot of criticism and accusations going around and this time they did an excellent job of notifying the public.

I’m sure that even though the Commissioners did an outstanding job and listened to the public, there will still be those with a political agenda and axe to grind which will find something to complain about.  The last time there was an election, the district lost out on a one time opportunity to acquire a parcel of land to combine two outdated firehouses.

After the last election, one of the commissioners contacted me and was very gracious saying I am welcome anytime to inspect their finances and budgets. Personally, I don’t think that’s necessary because the people who comprise our volunteer fire companies already save the taxpayers plenty of money by devoting endless hours of volunteer time as well as their safety. I personally know many of them and sometimes I ask myself where do they find the time, but thank God they are there and need our support. Please support our incumbent commissioners.
