Toms River Man, 20, Charged in Burglary

Neighbors alerted police after observing a suspicious man

An alert neighbor called police in time for officers to catch a man who they say burglarized a Shady Lane home during the day Tuesday.

The neighbor called police after noticing a man, identified as Jeffrey Madera, 20, of Chatham Drive, coming out from the rear of a home at about 11 a.m., said Police Chief Michael Mastronardy.

Another witness observed the suspect cut through a property and followed the person to a home on Chatham Drive, said Mastronardy.

An investigation found the residence the suspect was observed near had been entered after a rock was thrown through a rear window, according to Mastronardy.

As a result of the citizens providing information to police, officers Steven Bucci, Louis Sulsenti and Detective Roger Hull arrested Madera on a charge of burglary and trespassing.

He was being lodged in the Ocean County Jail in lieu of $30,000 cash bail.
